ARTHUR UPDATES
Broadband Grant: In 2019, the Town of Arthur, in partnership with NTera, Inc, applied for the 2020 Broadband Expansion Grant. We were awarded this grant and in early 2020, and fiber began to be installed throughout several areas of our township. This grant will bring high speed internet to 178 residents and 5 businesses, as well as serve an estimated 12 seasonal residents and tourists. NTera was also the recipient of the federal “ReConnect Program”, which will also serve another portion of the Town of Arthur. Work for this has not started, but we hope to see more fiber being installed in 2021 with this project. While we know that we have a long way to go to get all of our residents reliable, high speed internet, this is a great start. We will continue to apply for grants and won’t stop until we have solved this problem for the Town. Cares Subgrant & Routes2Recovery Grant: A Cares Subgrant, issued by the Wisconsin Elections Commission, was given to the Town for increased election expenses due to Covid-19. We received $665.30 based on the Town's population. The Town was reimbursed approximately $1000.00 by the State through the Routes2Recovery Grant for Covid-19 related expenses that were not budgeted for in our last budget. 155th Avenue Bridge Repair: Chippewa County applied for a 2023 construction date for the replacement of the 155th Ave Bridge and the Town received 80/20 state funding for the project. The 20% local cost share is eligible for 50/50 Town bridge aid from the County, so it should only be about $62,000 (10% of the project) for the Town’s overall cost. Disaster Damage Aid (DDA): On June 10th severe storms caused flooding and road damage in many local communities. The Town applied for and received $5,685.54 Disaster Damage Aid that covered 75% of repair costs for local road damage. Snow Removal: The Chippewa County Highway Department reminds everyone that it is not only dangerous but unlawful to plow or push snow onto or across a public highway. Wisconsin statutes Section346.94(5), prohibits this action. Snow left in ridges or piles on the highway create a hazard for vehicles and the snow removal crew! Recycling: Recycling will continue thru 2020 on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 7:30-12 pm. Please note that we do not accept large appliances. If you have appliance recycling needs please contact Chippewa County at 715- 726-7999 or Appliance Alternatives at 715-271-5820. Town Meetings: Monthly Town meeting dates and agendas can be found in the Courier Sentinel Paper, Town of Arthur Facebook page, website http://www.townofarthur.com/ and posting boxes located at the Town Hall, Corner of S and Hwy 27 and the ZCBJ Bohemian Hall. Hall Rental The Town Hall is available to rent to any Town resident for $75.00 plus a refundable $200.00 deposit. Please contact Town Clerk for availability and more information about renting. |
